Pepper 'Chervena Chushka' is a fantastic Bulgarian heirloom with a sweet flavor and no heat. It has 6-inch long, bright red fruits with medium thick walls. It is wonderful roasted! Also known as Chervena Chujski.
 
I grew a half a dozen Chervena Chushka plants in our garden in 2024 that grasshoppers decimated, but I harvested 1 pepper from those plants. That one pepper was so tasty that I knew I needed to try again. So, I grew these peppers in 2025, this time in pots away from the pests. I was not disappointed. 
 
Sowing Peppers Seeds: 
 
Start seeds indoors 6 to 8 weeks before the last frost date, a 1/4 inch deep. Transplant the peppers 2 weeks after the last frost date or when there is no hint of frost. Space 15 inches apart. Full sun.
