Echinacea pupurea is a North American native wildflower. It has drooping, purple-mauve petals surrounding an orange-bronze central cone. It blooms for a long time in midsummer.

Purple Coneflower attracts butterflies and beneficial insects. The plants provide food for the larvae of the Silvery Checkerspot butterfly. The roots are used in herbal medicine to stimulate the immune system. Hardy perennial in zones 3–9.

Sowing Echinacea Seeds:


Soak seeds overnight. Start indoors 8 weeks before the last frost date. Or sow outdoors in early spring or fall. Sow 1/4 inch deep. Full sun to part shade.
