Rue has yellow flowers and silvery blue-green delicate foliage. It is dought tolerant and deer resistant. This tall shrub is good for the back to middle of the border in the garden bed. Beneficial insects love it. It is a host plant for Black Swallowtail, Giant Swallowtail, Broad-banded Swallowtail and King Swallowtail butterflies. It is also known to repel Japanese beetles and cucumber beetles. Sell-sows.
 
Wear gloves when handling and pruning rue as it can cause a skin rash. Rue is an ancient toxic herb that was said to be an abortifacient by the Roman historian Pliny the Elder.
