Celery 'Redventure' is a flavorful red stalked celery with dark green leaves. The stalks will be smaller than the celery you find at the grocery store. I used my harvest for flavoring vegetable stocks and stuffing. I find the flavor overpowering raw. Redventure is a cross between Giant Red and Ventura and was introduced by Frank Morton in the 1990s.
You can make your own celery salt by letting your celery overwinter and go to seed. After you harvest the seeds, dry for a few weeks, and clean by blowing away the seed chaff. Grind the cleaned seeds in a spice grinder or with a mortar and pestle to make celery salt. This celery salt will be more flavorful than the pre-ground spice. I like adding it to homemade ranch dip for an extra kick.
Celery will self-sow in the garden with mix results. Some plants will go to seed the first year and other plants make a full grown biennial celery.
Spacing 10 inches apart.
