270 seeds. 55 days. Lactuca sativa. Romaine. Annual.
Lettuce 'Brown Goldring' has tight upright heads with green leaves tipped with bronze. This romaine (cos) style lettuce is crunchy and the boat-shaped leaves are good for dipping or filling. Very cold-tolerant. This British heirloom won an award of merit in 1923 from the Royal Horticultural Society. Introduced by the Goldring family of Bath, England. Also known as Crispy-Crunch Green-Gold.
Contrary to what others say about Brown Goldring, I found the flavor of a bit bitter compared varieties such as Bronze Arrow or Blushed Butter Oak. Two of my sweetest lettuces.
Sowing Lettuce Seeds:
Sow seeds on the surface of the soil in early spring and lightly cover with soil. Thin to 10 inches apart. Full sun to part shade.
