Lettuce 'Tennis Ball'

400 seeds. 55 days. Asteraceae lactuca sativa. Butterhead. Annual.

Lettuce 'Tennis Ball' has bright green, ruffled leaves that are great for burgers or small lettuce wraps. The soft leaves are very mild. Properly thinned, Tennis Ball makes a small loose head just before bolting, but you don't have to wait for the head to form to enjoy this heirloom lettuce. Tennis Ball lettuce was once grown by Thomas Jefferson at Monticello.

Sowing Lettuce Seeds:

Sow seeds on the surface of the soil in early spring and lightly cover with soil. Thin to 10-12 inches apart. Full sun to part shade.

    Very mild flavor

I like different lettuces for different reasons. This is my favorite when I want a very mild lettuce with no bitterness. The bright green color makes a lovely salad.
