Lettuce 'Red Deer Tongue' has lightly ruffled, red and green triangular leaves that vary from plant to plant. This unique American heirloom variety was bred from lettuce brought by the English settlers in the 1740s to North America. It is slow to bolt. 

 

Sowing Lettuce Seeds:

 

Sow lettuce seeds on the surface of the soil in early spring and lightly cover in soil. Thin seedlings to 8 inches apart. Full sun to part shade.
