Allium 'Purple Sensation' has balls of bright purple flowers on tall sturdy stems. The 3-inch diameter flower heads burst into bloom when many perenial flowers haven't started yet. Purple Sensation is a great cut flower because of its tall stem and long-lasting flowers. It is deer resistant and attracts beneficial insects.
 
I like the combination of Purple Sensation with Allium christophii for an ongoing display reminiscent of fireworks. When Purple Sensation is finished blooming, Allium christophii begins. 'Purple Sensation' is also known as Allium hollandicum.

Sowing Allium Seeds: 
 
Seeds require a long period of cold-moist stratification. Sow seeds outdoors in the fall. Barely cover the seeds with soil. Full sun to part shade.
