Watermelon 'Royal Golden'

20 seeds. 83 days. Citrullus lanatus. Annual.

Watermelon 'Royal Golden' has sweet dark pink flesh with a bright gold rind. The fruit weighs about 10–20 pounds. Do not be alarmed by yellow leaves as it is one of the features of this American heirloom.

Royal Golden is an excellent variety for beginners to grow because it is easy to tell when it is ripe. It turns from green to gold and the rind turns dull. Also look for the tendril near the fruit to dry up for peak ripeness.

Sowing Watermelon Seeds:

Sow seeds outdoors after the last frost date when the soil is warm, 1/2 inch deep. Sow in hills that are spaced 5 feet apart and thin to 3 plants per hill, or sow in rows 2 feet apart. Full sun.
