Tomato 'Mortgage Lifter'

25 seeds. 90 days. Solanum lycopersicum. Indeterminate.

Tomato 'Mortgage Lifter' has large 1-pound pink fruits with solid flesh. This American heirloom beefsteak variety makes surprisingly few seeds. The famous history of tomato 'Mortgage Lifter' is that M.C. Byles of Virgina was able to pay off his mortgage by selling the plants for a dollar each. It was introduced in the 1940s. Produces best in southern climates with a long season.

Sowing Tomato Seeds:

Start seeds indoors 6 to 8 weeks before the last frost date, 1/8 inch deep. Transplant outside 2 weeks after the last frost date. Plant tomatoes deep in the soil for a better root structure. Space 3 feet apart. Full sun.
