Sweet Pea 'Matucana' is one of our favorite sweet peas. Surprisingly, the blue-purple and burgundy bi-color make it go well with almost anything. It is an old fashioned variety with a beautiful fragrance and self sows abundantly in our zone 5 garden. This old heirloom was originally from Sicily and was given the RHS Award of Garden Merit in 2014.

Sowing Sweet Pea Seeds:
 
Sow indoors or outdoors 8 weeks before last frost date. Sow 1/2 inch deep, 4 inches apart. Move seedlings in sown indoors outside to a sheltered location when seedlings appear. Transplant 2-3 weeks before last frost date. Full sun to part shade. Seeds and all parts of the plants are poisonous.
