20 seeds. 60 days. Cucurbita pepo. Annual.
Squash 'Gelber Englischer' has bright yellow, 3–6-inch diameter fruits with a crown-like shape. Each fruit looks unique. It has a light flavor and a firm texture. The plants are compact making them good for small gardens. Heirloom from Gatersleben, Germany.
The mature squash can be used as a decoration. However, the texture of the mature squash is unpalatable and bitter. To save seeds smash the mature squash with a rubber mallet or other blunt intrument. A knife will not cut through the hard skin. Gelber Englischer shines best as a summer squash.
Sowing Summer Squash Seeds:
Sow seeds in hills 1 inch deep after the last frost date. Space the hills 4 to 6 feet apart. Thin to 2 plants per hill. Full sun.
