Leek 'American Flag' has mild onion-flavored stalks that are 16 inches long. This heirloom leek is wonderful braised or in a delicate leek soup. To blanch the stalks, mound up soil around the plants as they grow. Leeks are very cold hardy and can be covered with leaves or straw and harvested all winter. Hardy to zones 3–10.

Sowing Leek Seeds:
Start seeds 10 weeks before the last frost date and transplant outside a week after the last frost date. Sow 1/4 inch deep. Or, sow leek seeds outdoors early spring. Space 6 inches apart in deep rows that are 16 inches apart. Full sun.
