Tomatillo 'Acorazonado' is a Mexican heirloom with bullet-shaped to almost bell pepper-shaped fruits. The fruit weighs from 1 to 2 and 1/2 ounces. Some of the fruits are pure yellow, but many of the fruits are blushed with purple. Just gorgeous! The juicy fruits have a sweet, light citrus taste. Acorazonado has a spongy texture and hollow seed cavity, which makes removing the seeds easy in order to make hors d'oeuvres. Translated from Spanish 'Acorazonado' means 'Hearted.' From Malinalco, Mexico.
I found the plants to be fairly productive and early. I harvested my first fruits before the first medium-sized tomatoes ripened. The plants took a brief break in producing at the height of summer, but started up agian when the weather cooled. Acorazonada has an open habit and will grow upright with support from a tomato cage.
Height 3-4 feet. Spacing 30 inches.
